'Captain America' earns $4 million at midnight

'Captain America' Paramount's "Captain America: The First Avenger" scored $4 million in midnight grosses from approximately 1,800 runs on Thursday, besting similar summer titles like Marvel's own "X-Men: First Class" and "Thor."Late-night take marks a solid start for "Captain America," perhaps suggesting a bow higher than Par's predicted launch of $55 million-$60 million. ("Thor" earned $3.25 million from midnights and ended with $65.7 million during its opening weekend; "X-Men" started with $3.38 million for an opening weekend gross of $56 million.) "Captain America" has more competish on the 3D side, however. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2'' retained all of its 3,011 3D locations, with "Captain America" at 2,511 3D runs.Pic expands today to a total 3,715 Stateside locations.
